Keeping it simple - the economy of colour
I've always found it very satisfying creating prints using the minimum number of colours I can get away with. If my design comprises blue, yellow and green is there really any reason to use a separate green when I could just overprint the yellow on top of the blue? Overprinting colours keeps it in the family. The green 'goes' with the yellow and blue because it is made from them. Aesthetically I find this very pleasing. The making of my Hellebore print
Like many of my floral prints the inspiration for this print came from my garden. Looking out of my kitchen window on this cold, wet, grey January morning the sight of the hellebores springing to life brings a welcome pop of colour to an otherwise dormant garden. The pink one (sorry, I dont know its name) appears first, usually before Christmas. I love the subtle dark pink, pale pink contrast in the petals. The effect is stunning. What is a Collagraph?
Collagraphy is a printing process where different textures are inked up to produce tones and pattern. Anything with a low relief texture can be used including wallpaper and fabrics. There are two different types of collagraph, relief and intaglio, determined by the way the ink is applied. Ink applied to the upper surface of a textured plate using a roller creates a relief collagraph. Ink applied to the whole surface of the plate using a brush or card spreader then wiped away

New year, new website
I'd like to say I planned it this way, launching my new website to coincide with the start of a new year but it 's taken a lot longer to get here than I thought it would. When I launched @sueleechprintmaker on instagram in September 2022 creating a website was the logical next step - a platform to showcase my prints, share my ideas, design processes and things that inspire me.
