I've always found it very satisfying creating prints using the minimum number of colours I can get away with. If my design comprises blue, yellow and green is there really any reason to use a separate green when I could just overprint the yellow on top of the blue? Like many of my floral prints the inspiration for this print came from my garden. Looking out of my kitchen window on this cold, wet, grey January morning the sight of the hellebores springing to life brings a welcome pop of colour to an otherwise dormant garden. Collagraphy is a printing process where different textures are inked up to produce tones and pattern. Anything with a low relief texture can be used including wallpaper and fabrics. There are two different types of collagraph, relief and intaglio, determined by the way the ink is applied. I'd like to say I planned it this way, launching my new website to coincide with the start of a new year but it 's taken a lot longer to get here than I thought it would.
